The Glow Getter Spotlight: Lara Marquez

The Glow Getter Spotlight: Lara Marquez

Lara Marquez is the founder of Drop Boxing, a boxing-inspired fitness studio where she offers group fitness and personal training with an emphasis on losing yourself in a workout with good music and the lights down low. Not only has she created an incredible and unique studio experience for her members, but she's shifted her focus in light of the COVID-19 pandemic to offer virtual training classes via Instagram that support frontline workers by supplying N95 masks.

Her spirit and attitude make her a Glow Getter, as we love her approach to health and wellness, her authenticity and her resilience.

What’s your current skincare routine? Are you someone who likes to follow each skincare step every night? What are some of your favourite Miracle 10 products to use?

Well, I’d say it really depends on the day. My Monday to Friday routine is quick and to the point because my days are typically long and exhausting, but there are some necessary steps. I love to feel like my face feels clean and fresh before I put on make up or before I go to sleep. Washing my face in the morning and before I go to sleep with a gentle cleanser like Cleanser I is always my first step. Then I will quickly spray or pat a Toner on.

In the mornings I will make sure I put on some SPF 30 after my Moisture. In the evenings, I use the Eye Treatment with a moisturizer. Once or twice a week I will add a Retinol treatment before bed.

On Sundays I like to take an hour or more to myself during the day. It’s not the most ideal, especially with two young kids but it’s a very valuable piece of time I dedicate to myself as a reset. During this time I take a long shower, I exfoliate and do a hair treatment. After I get out, I put on some music, and throw on Mask and let it set while I dry my hair. I’ll then finish off with my regular daily cleanser, toner, moisturizer and eye cream and any serums (I love them all).

Do you have any beauty/skincare hacks or tips that have upped your beauty game?

Honestly over the years I’ve learned how important sleep, exercise and a healthy diet is for good skin. I’ve learned that when I prioritize going to bed early so that I feel rested the next day, it really assists in my daily skincare routine. Sometimes it feels like impossible to fit in sleep, exercise and a balanced diet, and honestly some weeks it very likely is impossible. But, when I make an effort to focus on going to bed early (instead of staying up looking at my phone or watching TV) then I have more energy to fit in a quick workout and I am more motivated to eat well. When I focus on these three things my skin shows!

What’s currently in your bag (beauty and non-beauty related)? What things must you always ave immediate access to throughout the day?

I have the Rejuvenating Mist that I love to use throughout the day. It keeps my skin feeling fresh and bright. I don’t wear make up often but I always have the essentials just in case I need to brighten up my face a bit. That includes, foundation, concealer, blush, mascara and a soft pink lip gloss like Lipshine in Royally Roncesvalles.

What’s something that no one really knows about you?

Not much. I’m an open book. I would say I really really appreciate and need my times of solitude. It allows me to explore my ideas and be creative. Women and mothers in particular are judged often on how time is spent away from their family/children. We have been raised to believe that to be a great mother is to give yourself up completely to your family and put your needs and wants last. This pressure makes us feel guilty for this time.

But, it is that time alone that has allowed me to explore my ideas. To build and create a solid business plan and to see it through until it is a tangible thriving business with smiling staff and clients.

Here at Miracle 10, we love to define a Glow Getter as someone who isn’t afraid to be their true, authentic self. In your words, what does it mean to be a Glow Getter?

A Glow Getter is someone that is RESILIENT. Someone that gets back up when they fall. With every goal there are challenges, some challenges so great that it could very well be the end of the goal in mind but it takes resilience to swallow your pride, ego and fears to keeping exploring solutions and coming up with new ideas. It’s easy to throw your hands up in the air and to call it quits but in the long run, it’s the ones that keep exploring new ideas and solutions that will find themselves on top.
