Why We Don't Follow Trends

Why We Don't Follow Trends

Our Glow Getters know by now that here at Miracle 10 headquarters, we prioritize the science of skincare, producing evidence-based formulations that focus on efficacy and long-term results.

Skincare is a flourishing industry that has all the girlies talking. And since information about trends and launches are more accessible now than ever before, this also means, unfortunately, that misinformation runs rampant.

Consumers are often faced with a host of brands promising everything but the kitchen sink. This means discernment is all the more critical when adding products to your cart. Skincare trends pop up faster than you can say SPF, and it’s not as simple as succumbing to the latest fashion must-haves (help 💁‍♀️).

When it comes to your skin, you want to pick up the ‘tried and true’ products that have stood the test of time, and the tests of experts. Let's dive deeper, shall we?

S is for Science

Skincare, as we know it today, is rooted in years of research and clinical trials. While skincare has existed in various iterations across the world for centuries, the products that line the shelves of most reputable distributors have a basis in science.

Ingredients like retinoids, acids, and other actives have been extensively studied for their efficacy on a host of skin-related concerns. These aren’t just buzzwords; they’re backed by rigorous research.

One of the many reasons to exercise caution when perusing the internet for the latest and greatest is that the trend cycle is not conducive to the scientific process. Heck, within the span of merely getting permission to run a study, about four months' worth of skincare “ins” and “outs” will have passed. Your glazed donut may have expired by then...

One Size Fits All

Another reason to be wary of your favourite influencer’s recommendations is that everyone has unique skincare concerns. When a single product best used for oily skin is widely promoted, folks with dry skin might run into trouble (don't get us started on our sensitive-skinned babes).

Prioritizing clinical formulas and doing your own research allows you to summit the mountains of marketing that might otherwise burn a hole through your pockets.

One size never really fits all, and we wouldn’t want it to. Shifting your focus from skincare trends to skincare science encourages you to be proactive in your overall skin health. It requires you to understand your unique skin type and concerns and explore the most appropriate ingredients instead of the most endorsed label.

Whether you have dry, oily, sensitive, or combination skin, science-backed brands offer solutions tailored specifically for you.

Snake Oil

Brands rooted in science often provide detailed information about their ingredients, formulations, and the research backing them. Often, these are ingredients that imitate the skin’s natural rejuvenation process and are found in the body. Many of our own formulations, particularly our Platinum Collection, are rich in these elements.

Transparency allows consumers to make informed choices by knowing exactly what they're putting on their skin. A brand that employs scientific findings has nothing to hide.

In contrast, trendy products might focus more on packaging and marketing, with less emphasis on the ingredients that truly matter. And we all know by now not to judge a book by its cover…

I Want It Now!

Trendy skincare products often promise instant gratification, but these quick fixes are either useless at best, or damaging at worst. For instance, harsh exfoliants might give you an immediate glow but could strip your skin of its natural oils over time. We still remember the controversy when a popular apricot exfoliant was accused of causing irritation and inflammation on the skin.

When you go for science-backed skincare, on the other hand, you can expect long-term skin health. This is because the products are filled with vetted ingredients that have been shown to benefit the skin over time. Take peptides, for example, and how they work gradually, offering benefits that compound over time without compromising your skin's integrity.

Slow and steady wins the race! When you spend a little extra time and invest more resources into your purchases, you’re more likely to stay consistent with your routine effectively boosting the power of the product.

You are also less likely to fall victim to the never-ending cycle of mindless consumerism, saving both your skin and your wallet from unnecessary experimentation.

Environmental impact? You bet. Trend cycles and increasingly buying products that aren’t made for your skin leads to more waste—often in the form of plastic packaging that sits in landfills. As the old adage goes: ‘less is more,’ and you can accomplish more sustainability (and efficacy) with fewer, potent products.

While it might be tempting to jump on the latest skincare trend, investing in science-backed products and practices will always yield better, longer-lasting results. Science doesn’t chase fads; it builds on a foundation of extensive research and repeated clinical trials.

So, the next time you’re drawn to a flashy new product, remember: your skin deserves more than a trend. It deserves the timeless, trustworthy care that only science can provide.
