It has got to be one of the most asked questions on the internet; How do you actually stop the formation of wrinkles? And is there a way to eliminate them once they've emerged? The hashtag #injections on Tiktok alone has nearly a billion views, and let's not forget all of the smoothing filters you can use when snapping a selfie on Instagram. While healthy, glowing skin is always on trend, we need to set the record straight with ageing: Wrinkles are inevitable and a completely natural part of the ageing process. They're beautiful whether or not you wish to lessen their appearance.
Now that we've cleared that up, for our glow getters actively working to slow down skin ageing, we sat down with our owner and founder, Ann Marie MacDonald, to take notes on her go-to treatments and strategies. Thankfully, in today's modern world, there are a number of accessible products and non-surgical treatments that can help reduce the appearance of deep-set wrinkles and promote healthier, younger-looking skin.
Let's start with skincare and skin health. The first and arguably the most important step in reducing the formation of wrinkles is to keep your skin hydrated and protected from the sun. Yes, we're on a tangent about SPF again! Sun exposure is one of the leading causes of wrinkles, so it's essential to use Sunscreen Lotion SPF 45 to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Ann Marie highly recommends incorporating antioxidants into your AM routine with a scoop of our Super C, proven to help neutralize free radicals and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Retinoids are another effective tool in reducing wrinkles and top-of-the-list for our founder. Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A and work by increasing collagen production and promoting cell turnover deep within the layers of our skin. In other words, using retinol in a formulation and dosage that you best tolerate will ultimately help reduce the appearance of lines (amongst other things... bye-bye acne!). It's a serious game-changer in the industry. Retinoids are available in various strengths, so it's important to start with a lower concentration like Retinol 30 and gradually increase as your skin adjusts if even needed. The higher the dose does not equate to better skin health. In fact, there is no reason why you should feel pressured to up your retinol percentage if your current strength continues to do the job without damaging your skin barrier.
Let's talk Platinum. Our Platinum Collection is a range of premium skincare products designed to nourish ageing skin with a potent blend of high-quality peptides, vitamins, botanicals, and emollients. When we think top-shelf skincare, our Platinum formulations are first that come to mind and this approach was all a part of Ann's strategy when creating the collection:
"I wanted the Platinum collection to stand out as a premier, anti-ageing skincare line, so I formulated each product with the active compound EMC10 that actively promotes collagen synthesis, resulting in fewer lines and wrinkles and a youthful luminosity to the skin with continued use. My goal was to create a skincare line that actively fights the effects of sun damage and natural ageing."
The entire collection was created to be an all-encompassing skincare routine, but one product that stands out is our Night Repair. It's often raved about as a one-and-done treatment! Night Repair offers a proprietary formula that can help reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles while restoring your skin's radiance and overall health. It's the perfect add-on to anyone's routine, especially for those who want to simplify their routine into as few steps as possible.
What about non-surgical treatments for facial rejuvenation and wrinkle reduction? We're giving a friendly shout out to our friends at MD Beauty Clinic. The most tried-and-true non-surgical treatment to slow signs of ageing is with Botox and other neurotoxins like Dysport and Xeomin. Neurotoxins are a well-known and popular non-surgical treatment which works to temporarily paralyze the muscles that cause wrinkles, resulting in smoother skin. Botox is perhaps the most commonly used brand to treat frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead wrinkles, with results that can last anywhere between 3 to 6 months.
Dermal fillers are also another great non-surgical option for reducing the appearance of deep-set wrinkles. Fillers work by adding volume to areas of the face that have lost elasticity. It plumps up those lines and wrinkles using a hyaluronic acid-based filler and is commonly utilized to treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and hollows under the eyes. Results can last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the type of filler used.
Lastly, there are several minimally invasive skin resurfacing treatments that can help to rejuvenate the overall look and feel of your complexion. Some of the most popular (and our personal faves) include the Miracle 10 Facial Peel, microneedling, radio-frequency and laser treatments. These treatments work deep within the layers of your skin to stimulate collagen production while also resurfacing the outer layer of your skin for the ultimate glow that keeps on coming. These treatments may require some downtime, but the results can be long-lasting, especially with continued maintenance sessions.
Safe to say there are a number of products and non-surgical treatments available to help reduce wrinkles and promote healthier, younger-looking skin. But remember, it's not a competition to try them all! What's important is understanding your skin tolerance and needs. We love how you can speak with a medical aesthetician at MD Beauty Clinic for free to determine the best treatment plan for your concerns. With the right combination of products and tools, you can have glowing skin that lasts. What's your favourite way to slow down signs of ageing? Let us know in the comments below.
