It’s no surprise that Halloween is kind of a big deal here in North America. And whether you’re a mom putting together a costume for a kid, a university student hoping to rock a spooky look for a weekend Halloween party, or someone putting on a special Halloween event, chances are you’ve had some experience with Halloween makeup. Peruse #halloweenmakeup on Instagram and you’ll find that numerous makeup brands are now offering special Halloween makeup and tutorials for the achieving the perfect zombie bride or superhero mask. As a skincare brand our main concern is (duh) your skin. So we’ve put together some tips for how to treat your skin before and after your Halloween makeup application. Our before care protocol will make sure your makeup applies flawlessly and our after care tips will help you to avoid dryness, sensitivity and breakouts.
Apply a Mask one day or a few hours before your makeup application. This will help to shed dead surface skin cells, hydrate the skin, and promote a glowing look.
Once you’re ready to apply your makeup, use our Enzyme scrub all over face and neck. Your makeup will apply better to clean skin that is free of surface debris. Exfoliating dead skin cells will also allow your moisturizers to penetrate more deeply, keeping your skin from dehydrating underneath your Halloween makeup.
Apply 2-3 pumps of Light Serum. This lightweight moisturizer is perfect to keep your skin fresh and hydrated under Halloween makeup.
Apply 1-2 sprays of Rejuvenating Mist to ensure your makeup is long lasting and won’t smudge or slip throughout the night.
Use your favourite makeup remover to remove eye makeup and lip stain. Don’t worry if you don’t get it all off, we’ll get there!
Apply 2-3 more pumps of cleanser I or II onto a wash cloth and gently scrub the skin. Pass gently over the eyes and mouth. Wash for 60 seconds and rinse.
Apply toner all over face and neck, you can pass over the eyes to remove any remaining eye makeup. It will not irritate eyes. Your skin will crave this pH balancing, super hydrating toner after a night in drying costumer makeup! If you are acne-prone, you can follow Toner with Solution I or II to minimize bacteria production.
Apply a small amount of Botanical Oil Concentrate all over face and neck, concentrating on areas that need extra hydration. This vitamin serum will work to brighten the skin’s look, instantly improve hydration and help to restore any damage to the skin’s moisture barrier. For those with acne-prone skin, Botanical Oil Concentrate will help to reduce the look of inflammation and bacteria production.
On the following night apply a mask (or the same night if you feel up to it!) to restore radiance and health to the skin.
By following these simple steps, you’ll keep your skin on the glowing skin track throughout all your Halloween festivities. Happy Halloween everyone!
